Janis "Jan" Y. Stewart, 62, 305 Grant St., Oconto Falls, died very suddenly Monday evening, June 28, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital. She was born January 4, 1937 in Milwaukee to Edward and Freida (Fredrick) Grath. She grew up in Oconto County and graduated from Oconto High School with the class of 1954. On May 12, 1956 she married Jason Stewart at First American Lutheran Church in Oconto. The couple lived most of their married lives in Oconto where Jan was employed by the Krueger Law firm and was part owner and operator of the Sears Store in Oconto for many years. The couple moved to Oconto Falls in 1987 where Jan had worked at the Times Herald Newspaper office until retiring just recently. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling and golfing in the area. Jan and Jay always enjoyed being together.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Jason Stewart of Oconto Falls; her parents, Ed and Fritz Grath of Oconto Falls; their children, Vonnie Hartman and fiance Bob Shallow, Jeff and Carol Stewart, all of Oconto, and Terry and Laura Stewart of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Jamie (John) Owens, Ryan and Elizabeth Hartman; Kayleigh and Brinn Stewart; Bethany, Caitlin and Micah Stewart; one great-grandson, Austin Owens; one brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Pat Grath of Howard; her mother-in-law, Ann Stewart of Oconto; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Josie Stewart of Oconto; her godmother, Helen Drath of Oconto Falls.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Henry Stewart. Visitation was held at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Sutlief officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto.
