James G. Lane, 76, of Oconto died peacefully at his home early , Wednesday morning, May 17, 2000. He was born August 15, 1923 in Mattoon, WI to the late George and Mary {Artz) Lane of Oconto. He married Genevieve Neta on September 27,1947. Jim owned and operated Lane School Bus Service from January 1946 until March 1986. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church.

A veteran of W.W.II, a 55 year member of the American Legion, and a 50 year member of the Oconto Golf Club, Survivors include his wife Genevieve, his children Carol Lane Azeez, Cape Neddick, Maine; Thomas, wife Linda, Minneapolis, Minnesota; John, wife Barbara ofWaupaca; Steven, wife Mary of Stevens Point; Jeff, wife Gail of Waukesha; Patricia Gabrielson, husband Peter of Oconto; Nancy Copeland, husband Scott of Mooresville, N. C.; Susan Lane of Chicago; 13 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; two brothers Marvin (Delores) Lane, Oconto; Russell (Marion) Lane, Oconto; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary in 1957 and his father George in 1980. Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 4 to 8:00 P. M. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, May 20 at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Joseph's Site where Rev. David C. Ruby officiated. Burial at Oconto Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion.
