He was born September 27, 1923, to the late Joseph S. and Ruth (Courtois) Dodds of Oconto. He married Shirley M. Thompson on January 27, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oconto; she preceded him in death on March 27, 1998. He retired from Wisconsin Public Service in 1983 after 35 years of notable service. He attended Oconto High School, and served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII from 1942 to 1945.
Survivors include seven children, Joseph R. Dodds, East Lansing, MI; Jeffrey (Roxanne) Dodds, Beloit, WI; William (Diane) Dodds, Oconto; Jeri Ann Heron, Mary Dodds, Kathleen Dodds, and Sharon Dodds, all of Minneapolis, MN; ten grandchildren; his brother, William A. (Joy) Porterfield, of Bull Shoals, AK; and preceded in death by his sister, Betty F. Rockabrand, of Oconto.
Friends called at Holy Trinity Parish from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, November 5. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. David C. Ruby officiating. Burial followed at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Oconto Hospital Foundation for the new hospital. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, assisted the family.
