ANOTHER PIONEER ANSWERS SUMMONS
Joseph Engler Succumbs To Attack of Heart Failure at His Home

Joseph Engler, a resident of Peshtigo for nearly twenty-five years and familiarly known to the residents of this section, dropped dead Sunday afternoon at his house on French street, the discovery of his death being made by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Otto Miller, upon their return from a call at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell, only a short distance away.

The body was lying on the floor near a table where he had been engaged in reading a newspaper when the members of the family left the house and it is evident that death must have come instantaneous. The family immediately summoned a physician, who pronounced life extinct and ascribed his sudden death to heart failure.

He had been subject to heart trouble for a number of years and was occasionally seized with fainting spells, but always rallied soon after, although his advancing age left him in a weakened state and a semi invalid.

The deceased was born at Hamilton, Pa., April 12, 1840, and since he came west had always been a resident of Peshtigo. Besides the widow he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Otto Miller of Peshtigo, Mrs. Frances Heckman of Grover, and Mrs. James Ott of Escanaba, and an adopted son, Jay L. Engler of Marinette.

He also leaves three brothers, Jacob and Daniel Engler, residents of Hamilton, Pa., and David Engler of the Outlet. One sister, Mrs. Emma Redall, who is living in Pennsylvania, also mourns his loss.

The funeral was held y yesterday afternoon. Brief services were conducted at the residence at 1 o'clock and at 1:30 o'clock from the M.E. church, Rev. A.L. Bennett officiating. The pall bearers were Louis Kastern, J.S. Thompson, J.C. Bashford, Arthur Scott, Lonis Randow (?) and Peter Gallinger. Interment was at Riverside cemetery.
