Iola Susan Sturm Mielke Tucker SLAGOSKI

Iola Susan Slagoski, 87, of Townsend, WI died on March 19, 2000 at the Eastview Manor in Antigo. Iola was born in Potlatch, Idaho on July 5, 1912 to Herman and Inez Bossell Sturm.

She married Chester Mielke on September 20, 1928 and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She then married Gerald Tucker July 5, 1974 and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1981.

Then in 1987 she married Alois Slagoski. She raised her family in Carter, WI. While living there she was a cook for the Wabeno High School during the school year and then during the summer she operated a bakery and restaurant in Townsend. After her family was on their own in 1956 she moved to Milwaukee where she was a cook for St. Francis Hospital. Then in 1958 she moved to Evanston, IL where she worked for Northwestern University for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Finally, in 1966 she moved back to the northwoods area where she settled in Townsend and operated a grocery store until she retired. But she didn't stop working since she then became the first manager of the Lakewood Meal Site.

She is survived by her husband Alois; four children, Gwendolyn Mathis, Peoria, AZ, Bonny Lathen, Merrit Island, FL, Boyd Jean Mielke, Madison, WI, Coralee Norbert Flynn, Townsend; seven stepchildren, Rosalie Richard Swanson, of Illinois, Marlene Sances, of Illinois, Raymond Joan Slagoski, of Florida, Gerald Rose Slagoski, Kenosha, Daniel Patricia Slagoski, Kenosha, Molly Douglas Schulte, Platte City, MO, Nancy Stanley Merlock, Kenosha; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation was on Thursday, March 23, 2000 at St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday, March 24 from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. at the Church, with Rev. Gary Bratz officiating. Interment in Forest Home Cemetery, Townsend. Suminaki Funeral Home, Wabeno assisted the family.
