She was born March 1, 1915 in the township of How to the late Helmuth and Bertha (Jeske) Schuettpelz. Irene Schuettpelz married Waiter Schuettpelz May 12, 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hayes. The couple farmed in the Town of How for many years. Irene also was employed at various jobs including working as a cook at The Hayes Grade School, working as a seamstress at the Shawano County Hospital, and as the salad lady at Lakeside Inn-Anderson Lake. Irene enjoyed fishing and crocheting. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Suring and its Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dean (Joan) Schuettpelz, of Athelstane, two sisters and their families, Lorraine (Ellsworth) Gerndt, Mildred (Melvin) Genskow, all of Suring; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Walter May 19, 1996 and her daughter, Donna Mae, in 1949.
Visitation held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, in Suring Wednesday March 8, 2000 from 4-8 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday 10 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Suring until funeral services 11 a.m. with Pastor Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial in Mount Olive Lutheran Cemetery.
A memorial has been established at Mount Olive Church.
