Buck was born in Carter on June 21, 1927, the son of Harvey and Myrtle (DeHart) Tucker. He grew up in Carter, and at the age of 17, enlisted in the United States Navy. After an Honorable Discharge, he married Marrette Smith at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno on December 17, 1949. Buck did many things in life; he was involved in logging for a time, was a beer truck driver, and, a Loan Closer and Rural Development Coordinator for the government. As a member of the forest County Potawatomi, he also served his tribe as tribal chair. Buck always loved being around people and sharing his story-telling abilities, even when the stories were a little on the unbelievable side. Where he went, laughter and goodwill followed. His favorite pastimes were wood- working and patronizing the local taverns.
Buck is survived by three daughters, Debra (Martin) Krueger of Townsend, WI; Dina (Daniel) Moravec of Carter; Diane (Glen) Linssen of Townsend; three sons Robert 'Mick" (Karen) Tucker of Freedom; Harvey Tom Tucker of Wabeno; Tim Tucker of Wabeno; one sister, Jean (Russ) Roeder of Townsend; 13 grandchildren: Travis, Heather, Josh, Kyle, Kaylyn, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Jessica, Jason, Danny, Joy, and Brad. Buck is further survived by two great-grandchildren, his dog "Baby Lena", and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard, and his parents.
As Buck would say, his 'Going away party' was held in two parts. First, the Potawatomi Native American service was held in the morning. at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16, at the Potawatomi Recreation Center in Crandon. Following services there, Buck was taken to the Suminski Funeral Home in Wabeno where a visitation was held that evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Pastor Dennis Larson then led the Christian funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, at the Saint Ambrose Maconna Hall in Wabeno. Interment will take place in the spring at the Carter Lakeside Cemetery.
