A Funeral Mass for Helen A. Jelinske, 91, of Waukesha, was conducted Wednesday, May 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waukesha followed by graveside services at Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Brian Mason officiated. Randle-Dable Funeral Home served the family.

She died Sunday, April 29 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Born March 17, 1910 in Oconto to the late Mr. and Mrs. D.J. (Zora Couillard) Laduron, she graduated from Oconto High School and UW-Oshkosh. She taught school in the Oconto area. She married Ernest Janssen of Abrams and together they farmed in Oconto County. He preceded her in death in 1954. She later married Leo Jelinske of Shawano, he preceded her in death in 1974. Following her teaching career she became a Social Worker for children. She worked in Oconto, Outagamie and Shawano Counties and was a member of the Board of Education in Oconto and Shawano Counties.

A member of the State Legislative Board for Social Work in Madison, she represented Shawano County. She was also on the State Mental Health Board from Shawano County and in 1972 was selected "Woman of the Year" by Business and Professional Women. For 15 years, she was a 4-H leader, where she was a judge at county fairs and speaking contests. In Waupaca she was a volunteer for Riverside Hospital. During the past few months she was actively involved in a UW-Oshkosh project studying the influenza breakout of 1918.

Survivors include three children, Dean (Pauline) Janssen of Waupaca, Gail (Janice) Janssen of Kaukauna, Leon (Elizabeth) Janssen of Waukesha; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dayne (Jean) Barthels; four step-children, Mrs. William (Marie) Hosselton, Bill (Barbara) Jelinske, Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Kowalski and Mrs. Jerry (Leah) Rydeski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marion.

Helen A. (Janssen) Jelinske of Waukesha, died on Sunday, April 29. 2001 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 17, 1910 in Oconto, WI to the late D.J. and Zora (Nee Couillard) Laduron. She graduated from Oconto High School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. After graduation she became a teacher in the schools of the Oconto Area.

She married Ernest Janssen of Abrams, WI, together they farmed in Oconto County. He preceded her in death in 1954. She later married Leo Jelinske of Shawano, he preceded her in death in 1974. Following her teaching career she became a Social Worker for Children. She worked in Oconto, Outagamie and Shawano Counties and was a member of the Boards of Education in Oconto and Shawano Counties.

She was featured in an interview on WISN TV in Milwaukee.

She will be sadly missed by her three children: Dean (Pauline) Janssen of Waupaca; Gab (Janice) Janssen of Kaukauna; Leon (Elizabeth) Janssen of Waukesha; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and her sister, Jean (Dayne) Barthels. Further survived by her four stepchildren Marie (William) Hosselton, Bill (Barbara) Jelinake, Jean (Raymond) Kowalski and Leah (Jerry) Rydeski, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her sister, Marion.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 1, 2001 from 5-8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue in Waukesha. Closing prayers will begin at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 2 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the procession to St. Mary's Catholic Church (corner of Newhall and Hartwell Ave.) for the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. Brian Mason officiating. Graveside services will take place in Oconto Catholic Cemetery, Oconto, WI on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Randle-Dable Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
