She was born April 22, 1918, in Chicago, to the late Harold and Barbara Kurth. On May 1, 1943, Harriet married Norbert A. Smits, in New York City. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Harriet was an avid seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand- mother.
Survivors include her husband, Norb, Sr., Gillett; her children, Barbara Heins, Shawano; Mary and Darryel Hearley, Oconto Falls; Pat and Stanley "Sta's" Funk, Gillett; Sylvia Smits and her special friend Dennis Boylan, Seymour; Colleen and Jeff Warrichaiet, Norb, Jr. and Rebecca, Harold and Cynthia, Debi and Kent Wichman, all of Gillett; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by two great-grandsons. Friends called at St. John Catholic Church, Gillett, Thursday after 10 a.m. Funeral Mass of Christian burial was 11 I a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2000, at the church, with the Rev. John M. Gallagher officiating. Interment in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Hayes. Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, assisted the family with arrangements.
