Henry J. "Hank" WURZER

Henry J. "Hank" Wurzer, 83, of Lakewood, died peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on December 22, 1999.

Hank was born on November 29, 1916 in Elton, WI to John and Emma (Juetten) Wurzer. He served his country honorably in the European Theater during WWII. After the war, Hank married Mary Grimes on May 7, 1949 in the Town of Langlade. He worked for the DNR most of his life as a supervisor of the coldwater fish hatchery for the northeast District in Lakewood, He also had a deep love for God, nature, community and family. He belonged to St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Lakewood and the Fr. Ocjiewa Council of the Knights of Columbus. He reverenced all of nature and enjoying it as a hunter, fisherman and trapper. He was active in the community belonging to the VFW of White Lake, past secretary/treasurer of the Mardi Gras Association of Lakewood and serving on the advisory committees of the Tomcy-Geiger Memorial Scholarship at Wabeno High School.

His family was special to him enjoying traveling with them and spending precious time with his children, grandchildren and all of his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mary "Dolly", Lakewood; six children, Ann Quigley-Hare, DePere; Nancy (Ray) Gardebrecht, Lakewood; Susan Wurzer (George Kraft), Amherst, WI; Tom Wurzer of Lakewood, WI and his special friend, Sandy Lettenberger, of Two Rivers, WI; John (Rita) Wurzer, Green Bay, WI; Bob Wurzor and special friend, Cleta Weber, Norway, MI; four sisters, Margie Bricco, Elton, WI; Vera (Don) Eschenbach, White Lake, WI; Mary Maurer, Cleveland, TN; Theresa (Bob) Schmidt, New Hampshire; four brothers, John (Frances) Wurzer, Elton; Cyril (Shirley) Wurzer, Arkansas; Eugene (Carol) Wurzer, Elton; Edward (Virginia), Appleton; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was on Sunday December 26, 1999 at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Lakewood. Parish vigil and Knights of Columbus Service was held. Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Monday at the Church with Fr. Paul Schumacher officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Suminski Funeral Home, Wabeno assisted the family.
