Hazel Johnson Wanish

DENMARK - Hazel D. Wanish, 71 passed away on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1999. The former Hazel Johnson was born in Mountain, on March 30, 1928, to the late Peter and Olga (Schultz) Johnson. On Jan. 19, 1947, she married Charles Wanish Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1967. Hazel was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denmark. Hazel worked as a school bus driver in the Denmark area and was the first woman school bus driver in the area. Hazel loved to spend time with her family and friends. Her home was always busy with visitors and she always made everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed making candy, crocheting and sewing.

Hazel will be sadly missed by her children, Dennis and Linda Wanish, Crooked Lake; Mike and Kathy Wanish, Kewaunee; Penny Wanish, Denmark; grandchildren, Paula and Chris Otradovec, Maribel; Charlie Wanish, Manitowoc; Joe Wanish, Kewaunee; great-grandchldren, Katie Otradovec and Cassandra Otradovec, one brother, Harold (Marge) Johnson, Milwaukee; one sister, Lila (Ralph) Lambert, Ariz; she was survived by many children who called her grandma Hazel, Michelle Graczyk, Allison and Jordan Haltaufderheid, A.J. and Isaac Jerde and Noah Rustlie, many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, Rich Wanish, one brother, Ambrose Johnson and one sister, Eunice Goriecki.

The funeral was held Tues., Dec 28 at her church with the Rev. Richard Schmeling officiating. Burial in West Danish Cemetery.
