Mrs. Herman Kasten, 67, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Helmke, the first settlers of the town of Gillett, was found dead in bed by her husband early Sunday morning. Mrs. Kasten has been in ill health for the past year but her condition was not considered serious as she had done her usual housework Saturday and had partly prepared her Sunday dinner. The local doctor pronounced death due to a heart attack.

Mrs. Kasten was born in the town of Gillett January 25, 1873, and was married to Herman Kasten, May 12, 1893. They farmed in the town of Gillett till 1930 when they sold the homestead to their son Arthur and moved to the village of Gillett where she had lived up to the time of her death.

Survivors are three sons, Joseph, Harry and Art, Gillett; three daughters, Mrs. Warner (Nora) Larsen, Underhill, Mrs. John (Elda) McNeil, Miami, Fla., and Sara, at home; a grandson, Ernst Kasten, whom she had raised from an infant; two sisters, Miss Lizzie Helmke, Gillett, and Mrs. Emma Larsen, Copemish, Mich,; two brothers, Otto and William, Gillett; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon at the residence and later at the Immanuel Lutheran church, of which she was a life long member, with the Rev. E.A. Wians officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
