Dr. Harold D. "Hal" Crouse, 68, Merrimac, formerly of Oconto, died Friday evening, March 15, 2002 at a Sauk City Hospital, following a four year battle with cancer.

Dr. Harold D. "Hal" Crouse, 68, Merrimac, Wisconsin, formerly of Oconto, died Friday March 15, 2002 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, following a four year battle with cancer.

Dr. Crouse was born in Perry, Iowa, on July 12, 1933, the son of the late Milfred and Ethel (Rudisil) Crouse. As a young boy, he attended St. Peter School, and graduated from Oconto High School in 1951. Following High School he graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1956, and received his M.A. and Ph.D. from UW-Madison in 1963.

Dr. Crouse was a Social Studies Teacher at Oconto Falls and Hartford High Schools, and was Superintendent of Schools at Lone Rock High School. He then became Dean of Continuing Education at UW-Oshkosh; Rice University, Houston, Texas; Cal-Ply, Pomana, California; and the University of Illinois at Bloomington. In 1981, he formed a company called International Education Travel, which he was operating at the time of his death.

He was very active in the Arts and Musical Theatrical Productions. Hal will be sadly missed by his wife, Doris Elizabeth Crouse; two sisters, Helen Baye, Oconto and Dorothy Estep, Lena; three nieces, four nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as special friends, the Ron and Sue Aubry Family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step-father, two brothers-in-law, a niece, nephew, and great-nephew.

Please join the family in a celebration of Dr. Crouse's life at a Funeral Liturgy, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto. The family will greet friends starting at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Paul Schumacher, Celebrant and The Rev. Mr. Walter Kaszynski, Homilist. Internment will follow at Oconto Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
