Funeral services for Glenn Smoot, 83, of Seymour, formerly of Gillett, were held Saturday, May 19 at Gillett Baptist Church. Pastor Jim Dewar officiated with interment in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett. Kuehl Funeral Home served the family.

He died Wednesday, May 16.

Born Sept. 6, 1917 in Hickory, Oconto County, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William (Eva Hendrickson) Smoot, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the recipient of three bronze stars and one silver battle star. On Sept. 2, 1941 he married the former Margaret Patz in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on April 28, 1988. On Jan. 24, 1990 he married Opal (Sherwood) Kleist in Seymour. He farmed in the Gillett area for many years, and was later employed by Wagner Gas and Electric Co., Gillett, until his retirement. He was a member of Gillett Baptist Church, Leubke-Robinson Post 8314 and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Opal of Seymour; two sons, Gilman (Cheryl) of Minneapolis, Kevin (Gayle) of Gillett; three grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Janet Barkley and Mrs. William (Jean) Seidl, all of Seymour; seven step-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Evelyn) of Kiel; two sisters, Mrs. Emmett (Mildred) Salefski of Phoenix, Az., and Thelma Germain of Florida.

He was preceded in death by six sisters and brothers.

A memorial fund has been established for Gillett Baptist Church.
