She was born November 4,1908, in Luxemburg, to Charlie and Ann (Zuege) Sell. At the age of seven years old, Gladys moved with her family to the Green Valley area where she attended grade school.
On September 5, 1927, she married Theodore Gaertig at the Zachow Lutheran Church where She had been confirmed. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Town of Morgan before moving to Oconto Falls in 1956. Gladys was employed at Community Memorial Hospital in housekeeping for many years. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan and had been active in the Ladies Aid. Lovingly called "Grandma" by her family and close friends, she enjoyed baking and quilting for them, even making one quilt for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcella "Sally" and Edwin Schroeder, Suring; Alice and Gerald Leitzke, Oconto Falls; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Gaertig, Morgan; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Montie, Appleton; Dorothy Eggert, Shawano; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Sell, Gillett; Laura Sell, Florida.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 1975; one son, Gerald and an infant son, David; one grandson, Everett Gaertig; two sisters, Hattie Montie and Lillie Hansen; four brothers, Fred, Ray, Albert and John Sell; and a son-in-law, Charles Kohel.
Friends called at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan after 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000 until the time of Services. Funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Paul Heykes officiating. Burial in the Town of Morgan Cemetery. 3h>
