Mr. George R. Konkel, 58, 3661 County J, Abrams, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, January 27, 1999 as a result of a traffic accident in Oconto County. George was born December 21, 1940, in the Township of Greenfield, Wis. in Milwaukee County. He was one of 16 children born to John and Lorraine (Prahl) Konkel. George married the former Shelia Sipponen. He was employed as an operating engineer most of his working life, and was a member of Local 139. In his spare time George enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are four children, Robert, Oconto Falls, Mark, Houston, Steve and Deanna (Jonas) Alberts, Green Bay; his mother, Lorraine Konkel, Stiles; four brothers, John (Barbara), Joe (Darlene), Richard (Faye), Lena; Michael (JoAnne), Brookside; ten sisters, Theresa (Robert) DePouw and Rosemary Porath, Oconto, Lorraine Wichman, Margaret Krumpas, JoAnne (Robert) Jaworski, Kathy (Roland) Wegner, Green Bay; Pat (Robert) Rock- teshel and Carole Torduer, Florida, Irene (Doug) Ryner, Lena, Mary Ann (Keith) Jenquin, Seymour; two grandchildren, Amber and Nikita Konkel; many nieces and nephews. Further survived by a dear friend, Joyce Bitters, Oconto Falls.

George was preceded in death by his father John, and a sister, Ann Lierman.

The family received relatives and friends at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 121 Chicago Street, Oconto. Parish prayers were held. Mass of Resurrection was conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 1999, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Joseph Site. The Rev. Philip Hoffman officiated. Interment at Oconto Catholic cemetery.
