He died Sunday, May 10 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Oconto.
Born Sept. 28, 1911 at Cecil to the late Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph (Anna Peterman) Schmidt, he married the former Gertrude Hochmuth on Oct. 14, 1935 at Oconto. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1997. He was employed at Cruisers Boat Company, Holt Instrument Laboratories and was a self-employed sign painter for many years. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Oconto, and served in the Merchant Marines for several years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Barbara) Birch of Westfield; four sons, George Schmidt, Jr. and Robert (Sue) Schmidt of Oconto, William (Mary) Schmidt of Kenosha, Kenneth (Marie) Schmidt of Markesan; two brothers-in-law, Bernard Hochmuth of Oconto, Vernon Jones of Downers Grove, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Athlyn Hochmuth of Oconto; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Rudolph Schmidt; and a sister, Lucille Jones. 3h>
