HILLTOP BEAUTY AND SINGER DIES 
Miss Noonan Put Church Before Opera Chance

"Miss Genevieve Claire Noonan, esteemed as Marquette's 'most beautiful and talented co-ed', died yesterday as a result of a heart affection. Her death caused profound sorrow at the university where her uncle, the Rev. H. C. Noonan, formerly served as president."  "

Miss Genevieve Claire Noonan, called Marquette university's most beautiful coed, died of heart trouble yesterday afternoon. Death came at her home in Oconto, after an illness which began with a nervous breakdown at Christmas. She was 21 years old.

TOOK DEGREE IN 1923.

After taking a degree in high school music in June, 1923, Miss Noonan studied another year at the university. She later became musical supervisor of parochial schools, and held this post until her illness. She was the niece of the Rev. H. C. Noonan, former president of the university.

"Miss Noonan was considered to have a remarkable soprano voice, and her friends had advised her to seek an operatic career. It was understood, however, that she was planning to devote herself to church work.

A SORORITY LEADER.

One of her achievements was the training of about 2,000 of the parochial school children, for singing in the Music Week numbers last year.

"Miss Noonan and her roommate at Marquette, Miss Elizabeth Kupecky, were prominent in sorority activities, as well as in social activities of all kinds. She was the historian of the Zeta Gamma Etsilon sorority in 1922.

"Miss Noonan was vice president of her class, and a member of the Coed Club. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Noonan, Jr. [of Oconto, Wisconsin].

(Note: Genevieve Claire Noonan was b. March 13, 1904 d. June 09, 1925. Her parents, John J. Noonan, Jr. and Mary Genevieve (Jane/Jennie Hearld/Herald) Noonan lived at 527 Main Street, Oconto. All are buried at the Catholic Cemetery in the Noonan Plot at Oconto.)
