Geraldine E. McDowell, 84, Oconto, died Wednesday November 15, 2000 at Bay Shore Pines, CBRF, Oconto. Geraldine was born July 2, 1916 in Oconto to the late John and Harriett (Leigh) Caldwell. She married Oliver McDowell on May 23, 1937. He preceded her in death in October of 1967. Geraldine worked at Great Lakes Shoe Co. 17 years. She then worked as a reporter for the Green Bay Press Gazette from June 1, 1963 until her retirement on July 31, 1986. Geraldine was a member of the Presbyterian Guild and First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Deacon.
Geraldine is survived by three daughters Nancy Schmidt, Oconto; Patricia Meyer, Oconto; Carolyn (William) Peshek, Oconto; two sons Daniel (Karen) McDowell, Scandinavia; Thomas (Jean) McDowell, Scandinavia; one brother-in-law Ernest Theiss, Brookfield; twenty grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister Doris Theiss, two brothers Ralph Caldwell, Leigh Caldwell, one son-in-law Bill Meyers Jr. and a great granddaughter Kristen Ruechel.
The family received relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Friday November 17, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Friday 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Thomas Beck officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, assisted the family.
