Mrs. William (Gwen A.) Martens, age 81, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at a local nursing home. She was born on March 6, 1919, in Suring Wis., to the late Henry and Helen (Ketter) Cyr. In 1940 she married William B. Meister in Dubuque Iowa; he preceded her in death in 1977. On Nov. 2, 1984, she married William W. "Bud" Martens in Yuma, Arz. She attended the Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church in Yuma, Arz. Gwen was involved with the Green Bay Historical Society and appreciated antiques. She enjoyed spending time at the Bass Lake cottage in Townsend, which she and her first husband built in 1955.

Survivors include her husband, Bill 'Bud'; one daughter, Mary (Roger) Greenwood, Jacksonville, Ill.; one grandchild, Angela Mann, Chicago, Ill.; one step daughter, Dr. Patricia Cole, St. Paul, Minn.; one step son, Jeffery (Annette) Martens, De Pere; and one sister, Kathleen (Louis) Martin, Green Bay.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Ave. at Ridge Rd., where a Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dennis E. Ellisen and Dr. Stephen A. Shive officiating. Internment will take place in Fort Howard Memorial Park. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established for the Brown County Humane Society or the NEW Zoo. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rennes Health Center for the quality care given to Gwen.
