She was born January 13, 1910 at Oconto to the late Ferdinand and Bertha (Kittler) Andre. She married James R. Helmer on September 23 1953. Gertrude worked at Bosted Restaurant, Oconto, Bond Pickle Co. for 15 years and also operated the Pioneer Tavern with her husband for eight years. She was a member of First American Lutheran Church, Oconto.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Helmer; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10to11 a.rn, Saturday. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the funeral home with Randy Young, Intern, officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
