Dies In Fire

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. - Severely burned about the hands, face and body from fighting an oil stove fire in his one room apartment, Franklin Schaal, age 70, died about 12:20 am Tuesday. Born in Gillett, Wis., Oct. 29, 1874, to Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Schaal, the deseased lived mostly at Oconto Falls until he came to Sturgeon Bay in 1937. For the past two years he worked for the Evangeline Milk Co. condensery near his home.

Surviving are the wife, former Mayme Howland, who lived at Oconto Falls; six children, Jess, a sailor who lives on Route 2, Sturgeon Bay; Chester; Mrs Brigg (Muriel) Stevens and Mrs Arthur (leafy) Harris of Oconto Falls; Cpl Orville, overseas, and Pvt. Lewellen, in the army hospital from D-day injuries; 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at O'Neil funeral home Oconto Falls with burial at Woodlawn cemetery. Rev Schilling officiating.
