Fannie "Peggy" Peterson, 93, of 1820 Mary’s Way, Kingsford, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Peggy was born Dec. 9, 1909, in Oconto County, Wis., daughter of the late Abraham and Mary (Rowell) Hyland. She had been a resident of this area for many years.

Peggy married Clarence Peterson on April 14, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1982. She and her husband operated Peterson Market many years ago. She was a member of the Aurora Free Church. She was a lifetime member of the Niagara Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain and was a volunteer and board member of the American Cancer Society for 24 years. Peggy enjoyed played cards and loved to dance.

She is survived by a son, Edwin (Joann) Smally of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; a stepson, Donald Peterson of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Donald Hyland of Iron Mountain; three sisters, Mary Massicotte of Iron Mountain, Violet Putman of Oconto Falls, Wis., and Doris Kriegil of Homestead, Wis.; three grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and James Smally; four great-grandchildren, Amanda MacAskill, Sean, Shannon and Joseph Smally. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Elmer, and Robert Hyland, and five sisters, Irene Brendemihl, Alice Smith, Grace Allen, Rose Giel, and Laura Zoeller.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Karl Utzat will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
