Francis Gundy Gunderson, 68, Oconto, died March 16, 2000 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born October 25, 1931 in Oconto to the late Paul and Agnes Prettyheart Gunderson. Gundy worked at Scott Paper Co., Oconto Falls, for 35 years. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from June 17, 1949 to June 2, 1952. He served with 99th F. A. Battalion and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the James Modrow Young Post of the American Legion.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Tricia Gunderson; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Marissa; three sisters, Inez Longsine, Oconto Falls; Bernice McNulty, Oconto and Joyce Coopman, Oconto; two step-brothers, Wilton Lucille Belongia, Vester Gertrude Belongia both of Oconto; two stepsisters, Delores Caster and Genevieve Conrad Sylvester; two stepsisters-in-law, Rose Mary Belongia and Edna Belongia; a stepbrother-in-law, Elden Larson; and a special friend, Shirley Lasley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Monty and Ricky; a sister, Evelyn Chilson; six brothers, Howard, Vernon, Delbert, Gilbert, Donald and Gerald; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Longsine, Mead McNulty, and Donald Coopman; stepbrothers and sisters, Violet James McGrath, Pearl Harold Bauers, Faye Donald Schultz, Johnny Christine Belongia, Earl Belongia, Edward Belongia and Myrtle Larson.

Friends called at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Peter Site from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Memorial Mass was 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at St. Peter Church with Rev. David C. Ruby officiating. Military rites conducted at the soldiers in Evergreen Cemetery by the Oconto American Legion. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto assisting the family.
