CALLED BY DEATH

Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell, one of the pioneer settlers of Oconto Falls and a lady held in highest esteem by all of our people, died at her home on Main street at nine o'clock last Friday evening, aged 64 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Mrs. Caldwell was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, August 18, 1850 and came to Wisconsin when quite a young girl and resided at Green Bay until her marriage to her late husband, David Caldwell in July 1867.

After her marriage she and Mr. Caldwell settled in Oconto Falls and this place had been her home up to the time of her death. Her life partner passed to the beyond a little more than one year ago. She is survived by four sons; Ales J. of Oconto, Hayes H. of this place, Arthur G. of New York, and E. Ward of Neenah; two daughters, Mrs. G. W. Burnside of Neenah and Mrs. Anton Gustin of this village. She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers; Mrs. P G Esson of Oconto, Mrs Matilda Sullivan and Mrs. Barbara Wildfang of Seattle, Wash., John Slattery of Oconto and Reuben Slattery of Eagle River, Wis.

The funreal occured Monay morning with services at St. Anthony church where requiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Fr. Looze ager which the remains were taken to Oconto and interment made in the Catholic cemetery near that city, the final religious rites being performed by Rev Fr Becker, pastor of St. Joseph church at Oconto.

The pall bearers were John Flatley, O M Saunders, John Hofbauer, William Wittmann, Cornelious Marr and William Plane.

The deseased was a warmhearted lady of kindly disposition and her long residence here and many charitable works endeared her top a host of friends. For some years she had been partially disabled owning to a stroke of paralysis, but partially recovered and for a couple of years was able to move around. Previous to the death of her husband, which occured in April 1914, she suffered a relapse, and since that time had been gradually growing weaker and more helpless until the final summons came releasing her spirit from its mortal tenement and the suffering and ills to which humanity is heir.

The following from outside attended the funeral: Mrs. Reuben Slattery of Eagle River, Wis; Mrs Nellie Grant, Mr and Mrs John Caldwell of Oconto; Mr and Mrs G. W. Burnside and Ward Caldwell of Neenah.
