PIONEERS PASS AWAY
"Grandma" Volk No More
Mrs. Elmira (sic), more familiar known as Grandma Volk,
died at her home in Oconto Falls Monday, aged 96 years. She had become
very feeble and recently fell from her bed, breaking her hip, which injury
added to her very great age she was unable to withstand.
With her husband, John Volk, deceased came to this county
in the early sixties (1860's). They were the
first settlers of Oconto Falls and she leaves more than a hundred descendants
now residents of that vicinity. Six sons and four daughters were born to
them of whom four (sic) sons, James, William, Alfred, J.C. and R.F. survive
her, all residents of Oconto Falls except Alfred, who lives in Oklahoma.
The funeral was held at Oconto Falls Wednesday with
interment in the private family cemetery there.
