Edward J. 'Ed' Pociopa, 79, Oconto Falls, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, April 7, 2001 at home. He was born June 25, 1921 in the Town of Lena to Louis and Dora Kowalczyk Pociopa.

He grew up in rural Lena and as a young man, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 12, 1948 he married Marguerite 'Peggy' Konop at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Milwaukee where they lived for 15 years and started their family. In 1962 the family moved back to Spruce where they owned and operated 'Ed & Peg's Bar' now Soukup's for 10 years. The couple then moved to Stiles and ran 'Ed & Peg's Bar' from 1972 until February of 1996 at which time they moved into the City of Oconto Falls. Ed was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stiles. He enjoyed gardening and the canning of pickles and mushrooms, as many as 300 quarts a year for family and friends. He liked all kinds of sports, especially football and the Packers. Ed genuinely liked being with people, playing cards with his friends in Lena and telling a good joke.

Survivors are his children, Jill and Tom Milheiser, Oconto Falls; Jack and Chris Pociopa, Green Bay; Kim and Fred Marquardt, Oconto Falls; Jim Pociopa, Oconto Falls; 10 grandchildren; one brother, John of Michigan; two sisters Frances Kornfeld, Milwaukee; Ceil Imig, Lena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite 'Peggy' on September 21, 1997; an infant son, David; one brother, Tony and one sister, Helen.

Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 4 p.m. Tuesday; prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stiles. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Spruce.
