Emil Flemke
contributor:
Cholm, Poland to Oconto Falls
1940
It was with a decided sense of shock that word of the passing of Emil Flemke
spread Saturday, for high hopes of his recovery had been entertained the
later part of the week. Mr. Flemke’s condition was very critical for a
time after he suffered an arm so badly mangled in a planer at the Groth
Blacksmith Shop on August 8, that immediate amputation was necessary.
Funeral services were held at the Bateman Funeral Home at 1:30 Monday and
from the Lutheran church at Wilhelmswald, the Rev. Wm. Schroeder officiating.
The casket was borne to its resting place in the church cemetery by Messrs.
Julius and Herbert Braun, Gust Marten, Adolph Jaeger, Emil Kuhn and John
Meyer.
Mr. Flemke was born February 2, 1891 at Cholm, Poland, and came to this
country at the age of 19. After working at Blackwell and Milwaukee, he
settled in this territory and on May 8, 1917 was united in marriage to
Miss Ida Slack at the Wilhelmswald church.
Survivors include the widow, two sons, Marvin at home and Alfred of
Mountain. Mr. Flemke was a fireman at the Falls Power and Paper Company
here.
