Mr. Engelbert "Beanor" R. Picard, 97, lifelong Oconto resident, died Friday morning, December 25, 1998 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Oconto.
Mr. Picard was born March 21, 1901 at Oconto, the son of David and Mary Trepanier Picard.
He was a World War I Veteran having joined the Navy in 1918 and served until discharge on April 11, 1919. On June 28, 1923 Engelbert was united in marriage to the former Kathryn Kinziger at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oconto. St. Peter's Catholic Church was very special to Engelbert and his family, as his grandfather (Peter Pecor-Picard) donated the land for a Catholic Church which is known today as St. Peter. He was a life long member of the Jones-Moodrow-Young American Legion Post #74 for 79 years. He also served as Post Commander.
Engelbert was also a supervisor and alderman for Oconto County. He worked for Holt Hardwood Mill, managed the Shoe Department for Lauerman's in Oconto, and then took over the management of Bahcall's Store. He retired and moved to the Oconto Manor where he lived for 21 years.
Surviving are a son Donald (Joan) Picard, Waukegan, IL; a daughter Mary (Robert) Frost, Zephyrhills, FL; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-geat granddaughter.
Engelbert was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Kathryn "Katie" on June 10, 1996; by a son David, two brothers Blaise and Romear, and by four sisters, Stella, Teresia, Gertrude, and Antionette, many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Joseph Site from 9:30 until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 1998. Mass of Resurrection, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Rev. David Ruby officiating. Interment at Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
Jones-Moodrow-Young American Legion Post #74 will conduct military rites at the Church.
