DIES SATURDAY IN JAMAICA

Dr. Donald M. Bailey

Residents of the Gillett community were shocked this past week end when they learned of the death on Saturday of Doctor Donald M. Bailey. Dr. Bailey suffered a fatal heart attack during the last days of his annual vacation trip to the Carribean Islands. Death occured in Jamaica. He was Gillett's only doctor.

 Friends in Gillett were informed of the death of the 42 year old physician by a telephone call from Dr. Haines of Nashville, Tenn. Dr Haines had received word from his sister, Janet, Mrs. Bailey Word from Mrs. Bailey indicated that the doctor had suffered an attack on Friday and was immediately hospitalized. He appeared to be getting better and was making arrangements for his dismissal when the fatal attack occurred.

 Funeral services will be held in Vincentown, New Jersey this week, pending the arrival of his body.

 A native of the East, Doctor Bailey came to Gillett in 1946 after his discharge from service with the medical corp during World War II. He served 46 months with 18 months in the European Theatre of Operations. While overseas, he was chief of the orthopedic section and assistant chief of surgery of the 162nd General Hospital. A graduate of Hennemann Medical College in Philadelphia he interned in Morristown, New Jersey. He was associated with the Women's Hospital in New York City prior to his Army service.

 Besides his wife Janet, he is survived by three daughters, Susan 14, Kay 7, and Jane 5. Susan is a student at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam. The children flew East on Tuesday for the services with Miss Betty Zemke, Dr. Bailey's secretary. Mrs. Bailey went direct to Vincentown from Jamaca.
