Donald Rhode(1927 - 2016)

Donald H. Rhode, 88, Oconto, passed away peacefully Monday, May 23, 2016 surrounded by his family. Don was born June 29, 1927 in Laona to the late Harry and Edna Rhode. Don married Doris DeWindt on September 4, 1948. She preceded him in death after fifty-seven years of marriage. Don married Joanne Dufek on June 28, 2008, celebrating eight years of marriage. Don served in the US Navy during the final two years of WWII. He then served in the Navy Reserve, Civil Air Patrol. In October of 2014, Don proudly celebrated his service to the Country on Old Glory Honor Flight - Mission 27. Don retired from Wisconsin Public Service as Survey Supervisor after 38 years. He served on the board of the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors for twenty two years; and during that time he started the Northeast Chapter. Don had a love for nature and the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. Don served as a Boy Scout leader for twelve years. Don was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto American Legion Post #74 and Oconto Elks Lodge.

Don is survived by his wife Joanne Rhode, Oconto; two daughters Barb Wietor, TX; Julie (Jeff) Vandenbush, Green Bay; three sons Jim Rhode, LA; Jerry (Jodi) Rhode, Oconto; Steve (Laura) Rhode, MI; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, from 9 AM to 12 Noon Friday, May 27, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 Noon Friday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post #74. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
