Dr. Delbert H. DOUDNA

Dr. Delbert H. Doudna, 88, 129 S. Main St., Lena, died Thursday afternoon, January 20, 2000 at a St. Petersburg, Florida hospital following complications from a stroke suffered the day before. Dr. Doudna was on vacation in Florida with family when the event happened- .

He was born September 13, 1911 in Barnesville, Ohio to Joseph H. and Nora (Hartley) Doudna. He grew up in the Barnesville area and as a young man, attended Ohio State University, graduating with his degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1936. On October 16, 1941 he married Elda Stanley in Indiana. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Northern Wisconsin where "Doc" practiced Veterinary Medicine in the Lena area until his retirement. Dr. Doudna was a pioneer in the artificial breeding of cattle and brucellosis eradication program.

Since retirement, he enjoyed gardening and raising pumpkins which he sold on his property on Hwy. 41 next to the Farmhouse Restaurant. He was a member of the Lena United Methodist Church and a member of the Ohio Yearly Meeting of Friends. He was a charter member of the Lena Lions Club. He also had membership in the Holstein Friesan Association of America.

Survivors are his wife, Elda Doudna, Lena; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dan Strebig, Cadott; Kris and Tony LeFebre, Abrams; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Lynn Doudna, Abrams; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls from 4 until 9 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2000. Visitation will continue at the Lena United Methodist Church after 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2000 until the time of services. Funeral 4 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jodi Arpke-Lone officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund, will be established.
