He was also instrumental in the computerizaation of parts of the program, and for his efforts, was awarded the USDA Unsung Hero Award for Agriculture. While Don served many through his work, he also served many on his own time. He had no children of his own, but that did not stop him from treating other children as if they were his own. His dedication to service led him to 10 years of coaching the Dodgers of the Hiawatha Park Stan Musial Little League, where he was given the Coach's Award in 1988. One of the highlights of the baseball seasoons was the picnics that Don would put on for his players and their parents. Supplying everything himself, he would set up a grand feast to show his appreciation for the dedication shown by his players. He will be missed by many, including "the Wild Bunch", six of his grade school friends with whom he remained a friend until the time of his death. In his short time, he touched many, and will be missed by all who knew him. As a friend of his described him, "Friend once, friend forever."
Don is survived by his parents, Herman and Irene Cook; his brothers, Michael and Fred Koch; nephews and niece, Kevin, Alex, Paul, and Pam. Further survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
