Last Sabbath morning, a little before 8 o’clock, Feb. 2, 1879, Mrs. S. H. Waggoner, quietly passed from time to eternity. During the past year she had been a great sufferer, and some time since hope of recovery had been given o’er by herself and friends. For some days prior to her decease her death was hourly expected, and when it came she was more than ready to meet the summons. In her death, a very large number of people in this city and country surrounding lose a personal friend, many a poor family a benefactor, her husband and family a devoted wife and mother.

Mrs. Waggoner was born at Ottawa, Province of Ontario, Canada, in the year 1839. Here she lived with her parents until 1857, and at the age of 20 years she was united in marriage with S. H. Waggoner, who survives her. In the year 1866 she removed with her husband to Ogdensburg, N. Y. After a residence there of six years, in 1872 moved to Wisconsin, stopping at Menasha where, after a years residence, she removed with her husband and family to Oconto, arriving in the fall of 1873. In the following year she opened a retail grocery store, which with the aid, principally, of her two sons, has carried on successfully. Having in her early life been an assistant of her father in the same line of business, she found in it a pleasure that many others would not.

Since early life she has been a worthy member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and wherever she has lived has been a leader in benevolent and church work, worthy of a high and noble character. In her death the church and charity loses a valued supporter. In the latter months of her illness she was cheered and comforted by the presence and care of her aged parents and sister, besides her own family, all of whom did all possible to smoothen her pathway to the end.

In this their great affliction the family has the hearfelt sympathy of the whole community. The funeral services occurred on Tuesday afternoon, and were attended by a very large concourse of people, although the day was exceedingly stormy, which undoubtedly kept many from attending. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Walker of Fort Howard, a recent pastor here, who pronounced an impressive discourse founded upon the 31st verse of the 5th chapter of Judges.—"But let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might."
