Caroline (Kernie" J. Mathey, 90, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at Bayshore Pines Apts., Marinette.
She was born to the late George and Helen (Martyn) Horne September 7, 1908 in Big Suamico, Wi. Caroline taught at Lena Elementary School until her marriage to John Mathey in 1937. The couple owned and operated Mathey's General Store in Lena until 1965 when they retired to Crivitz. John preceded Caroline in death December 11, 1994. Caroline was an active member of the Lena Altar Society and the Lena Legion Auxiliary.
Caroline is survived by two daughters, Marjo Green, Porterfield; Roberta Megow, DeForest; one son, John R. Mathey, Green Bay; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Virginia) Horne, Cadillac, Mi.; Omar (Marion) Horne, Raton, N. M.; and one sister, Gerri Rhino, Iron River. She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Harry Green and Lee Megow; two brothers and three sisters.
Friends called at the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Lena. Ladies Altar Society Service and Parish Vigil Service was held. Funeral Mass was conducted 11 a.m. Friday March 26, 1999 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lena with Father Harold Beernsten officiating. Interment at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Lena.
A memorial fund has been established in Caroline's name to be donated to a local charity.
