Old Resident Is Dead
Mrs. Catherine Porter Passes Away at Home of Daughter

Mrs. Catherine Porter, who for more then 30 years was a resident of Abrams, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. D. Whitcomb, in this city at 8:15 last Saturday morning, aged 77 years.

About three years ago she suffered stroke of paralysis and never fully regained her health. For the last 13 months she had been confined to her bed.

Deceased whose maiden name was Catherine Garrigan, was born in West Maid, Ireland, Feb. 10, 1831 and when only 8 years accompanied her parents, who settled in the state of N.Y. There she was married in 1851 to Mike Porter who died more then 40 years ago. About two years after their marriage they came to Wisconsin and settled in Baraboo, living a number of years in Juneau county and about 15 years in DePere after which she moved to Abrams where she lived until September 1906 when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Whitcomb, and about 7 months ago resumed her residence with her in this city.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. H. D. Whitcomb, Oconto, Mrs. Anna Touchette, Coleman, Mrs. Della McGregor, Pensaukee, Mrs. Lina Datton, Marinette and two sons; George Porter Abrams and Frank of Washington. All were present at the funeral except Frank. She is also survived by two brothers, James Garrigan of Pennsylvania and Thomas of Michigan, 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held from St. Joseph’s church at 8:30 Monday morning, Rev. Belbach officiating and her remains taken to Little Suamico, where her grandsons acted as pallbearers, for internment.
