Cyril "Zip" F. Schaal, son of the late Dudley and Flora Schaal, died peacefully in his sleep at home with his wife by his side, Saturday morning, May 8, 1999. Zip and Liz, formerly of Mountain, currently resided with daughter and son-in-law Tessie and Craig Sobieck, Krakow. Zip spent over 40 years logging and trucking. After his retirement, Zip found great joy fishing and spending time with his 16 surviving grandchildren. He found further enjoyment with his 14 great-grandchildren.
Zip is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Liz Schaal; two sons, Dale and Judy Schaal, and Ike Schaal; two daughters, Ann and Gerald Pagenkopf and Tessie and Craig Sobieck; two brothers, Al and Lorraine Schaal, and Joe and Elaine Schaal; two sisters, Betty and Vic Perschbacher, and Dorothy and Jack McAllen; one brother-in-law, Robert Hansel, an two sisters-in-law, Marvel and Robert Elbe, and Hazel Collins. Zip is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and Lon Schaal; son-in-law, John O'Neil; brothers, Gordon and Clarence Schaal; and sister, Grace Hansel. Friends called at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Ike Schaal officiating. Private burial in Mountain Cemetery at a later date.
