He was born September 14, 1916, in Spruce, to the late Nels and Julia Elnora (Peterson) Ankerson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 11. On September 27, 1946, Clarence married Betty Gomber in Oconto. He farmed in the Town of Spruce and was also employed by Lena Lumber Co., Lena. He was a member of Hickory Methodist Church.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Betty, Suring; his son, Roy, Suring; his daughter, Iris Janiak, Green Bay; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Norwood "Woody, Suring; Robert and Alyce, Gillett; Arnold, Iron Ridge, WI; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Leona and John Bergmann, Leone Stender, all of Green Bay; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his future great-grandson; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Pam Gomber, Gillett; an one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Arnold Johnson, Oconto Falls.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tammi Janiak; one brother, Donald; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Isabel (George "Jug") Zeitler, Arline (John) Moore, Marion Ankerson, Hazel Ankerson, John Stender; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Ankerson and Dorothy Ankerson.
Friends called at the Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2000, at the funeral home, with Pastor James Cotter of Bonduel, officiating. Interment in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett, with military rites conducted by members of the Gillett VFW and American Legion.
