MILWAUKEE - Clarence A. Schacht, 93, Gillett High School teacher and coach during the 1930's, died on Wednesday, January 17, at Select Specialty Hospital, Milwaukee. He had been hospitalized since suffering a fall at his New Berlin residence three months ago.

Born and raised on a farm near Augusta, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and played varsity football, received a bachelor's degree from the University, of IOWA, and received a master's degree from the University of Michigan. Before retiring in 1972, he served nine school districts through Wisconsin during his long career, first as a teacher and coach and later as an administrator. He was active in many civic organizations, often as an officer.

He is survived by a daughter, Amber (William) Carter, New Berlin; a grandson, Attorney Rodney (Attorney Eileen) Carter, New Berlin; a grand-daughter, Attorney Suzanne Carter, Chicago, and two great- grandchildren, Brenton Carter and Madeline Carter, New Berlin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (nee Kosbab), and by three brothers and one sister. His late wife was born in Maple Valley, raised in Gillett, and also was a Gillett teacher during the 1930's.

Private family services with burial will be held at Oconto in late spring. Krause Funeral Home, Milwaukee, and Berth Funeral Home, Peshtigo, are handling arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Peshtigo Bulldogs Booster Club, 380 Green Street, Peshtigo, WI 54157. He coached numerous Peshtigo High School championship teams during the late 1930's and early 1940's and had a longtime special interest in the school's athletic department.
