Mr. Vandervest was born April 23, 1922 in Oconto, WI. to Lawrence and Anna (Gravel) Vandervest. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church and a former member of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Tacoma, Wash. Mr. Vandervest was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. Survivors include a son, Michael of Yelm, Wash.; three daughters, Pat Anderson of Graham, Wash., Sherry Hendrickson of Managha, Minn. and Linda Webb of Tacoma, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday from noon-2 p.m. at the Piper Morley Funeral Home, Tacoma, Wash.; on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington Soldiers Home Chapel, Orting, Wash.
Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Soldiers Home Chapel with a reception following in the Soldiers Home Nursing Facility. A memorial service will also be held in Brainerd sometime in April.
