Doney,
Babe
Babe Doney, 87, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016 at
St. Clare Memorial Hospital. He was born December 14, 1928 in Stiles to Ralph
and Ruth (Shores) Doney. Babe grew up in Stiles and attended Oconto Falls Public
Schools. As a young man he enlisted in the US
Navy and
served during the Korean
War.
Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked on ships which
traveled the Great Lakes.
On September 22, 1954 he married Janice Rice in Waukegan, IL. Babe lived in
Oconto Falls all of his life where he once managed and bartended at Mr. Albert's
just outside of Oconto Falls for many years and later at Lakeside Supper Club
for another 11 years. He was also self-employed as a painter. He was a life
member of the Oconto County DAV Chapter 45. Babe liked going fishing in the area
and in Canada and having "Miller Time" with his neighbor Bob Ellner. He also
loved doing things with his lifelong friends, Howard Elliott and Jim Kadlec. As
an avid Packer fan, very often Babe loved telling the story of going to the Ice
Bowl with his neighbor Bob Krause and leaving in such a hurry that he forgot his
boots. He died believing he must have been the only one in attendance that day
wearing only moccasins and no socks.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Janice Doney; their four children, Brad
"Clyde James", Alane "Annie" Roberts, Bill "Willy Kit" (Sarah) and Crystal
"Shooter" Doney, all of Oconto Falls; three grandchildren, Ryan Doney, Anna
Roberts and Samantha Doney; a special son-in-law, Mike Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bernard and an infant
brother Cletus.
Visitation will be held after 3pm Monday, May 16, 2016 at Jones Funeral Service
in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 7pm
Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Carole Neitzel officiating. Burial with
military honors will take place 10am Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
Because Babe didn't like to dress up, anyone attending is invited to dress
casual.
The Doney family would like to thank the special caregivers at Sharpe Care (now
Atrium) which he considered home, Dr. Genadi Maltinski and his nurse Kathy,
Oconto Falls Ambulance and the entire St. Clare ER department, for the wonderful
ways in which they cared for Babe.
