She was born September 13, 1933 in Green Bay to Andrew and Emma (Teteak) Wessley. As a little girl she moved to Spruce with her family where they lived for four years. The Wessley family moved back to Green Bay where Audrey attended St. John's Catholic School and later West High School.
On January 27, 1951 she married Ellis Mercier at Trinity Lutheran Church in Green Bay. One year following their marriage her husband Ellis entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and in order to be with him, Audrey and a friend boarded a train and traveled to Aberdene, Maryland to be together. Once reunited in Maryland, Audrey and Ellis started living in a two room "chicken coupe" with another couple. Following Ellis's discharge from service, the couple returned to Green Bay in 1953 and started their family. In the 1960s as a young mother of four children, Audrey started a long and distinguished career as an area manager with Sarah Coventry fashion jewelry sales. It was during this time Audrey managed a large and successful territory for the company and was invited to participate in many motivational activities and lectures. The Mercier family decided to move to Oconto Falls in 1975 where they purchased the Oconto Falls Hotel. Audrey operated the hotel until retiring in 1992.
Her son Andy still owns and operates the family business. The couple moved to Oconto in 1995 so they could be closer to the bay and go perch fishing more frequently. Together Audrey and Ellis spent many hours on the Bay of Green Bay, Ellis baiting Audrey's hook and taking off all her catch, because Audrey was so successful at perch fishing.
They enjoyed going out for dinner with family at Brothers Three in Oconto and The Landing in Menominee. They also loved to have their children and grandchildren over to their home for numerous family functions. Audrey and Ellis also liked to travel and to attend auctions and rummage sales looking for antiques. Audrey has been a member of First American Lutheran Church in Oconto and the Oconto Falls Legion Auxiliary.
