ALBERT WHITING, 75, VICTIM OF ILLNESS, HAD 91 RELATIVES
Oconto, Wi. - Albert Whiting 75, pioneer Oconto county, resident,
woodsman, and logger, died Thursday evening at the Oconto hospital
where he had been confined for the past two weeks. His passing is
mourned by a family of ninety-one immediate relatives.
Whiting was born in New York state and was brought here as a child
when Oconto county was virgin forest. His family settled near
Coillardville, and as soon as Whiting could wield an ax, he went to work
in the woods, which he followed until cleared lands meant farms, and then
he took up farming. During his time he worked upon several farms in the
vicintiy of Cream City.
Whiting is survived by his widow Bertha, six children, David Lorenzo
Whiting, town of Stiles, Winslow Whiting, Cream City, Herbert Whiting,
Cream City, Mrs. Micharel Exfred, Oconto, Mrs. Geo. Beauleau, Oconto
Falls, Mrs. S. B Richer, Green Bay, also by 36 grandchildren and 48 great
grand children.
NOTE: Albert is the son of David Eustace Whiting and Elizabeth Upton Rider. Error in
this one - 1880 census shows him born in Maine. Evidently he married twice as the
census shows his wife as Addie.
