Augusta was born in Hebron, Minnesota, on September 7, 1905, the daughter of Alfred and Cora (Eastwood) Thorne. She grew up there. After school she moved to East Gary, Indiana now known as Lake Station, and there she married Louis Starr. On July 7, 1986, Louis preceded her in death. She then lived with her son, where she had lived for the past ten years. Then, this last spring, she needed more skilled nursing care than her son could provide, so she went to live at the Nu-Roe Nursing Home in Laona, where the family was very grateful for the care that she received. She enjoyed crocheting and loved her dog Brandy. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends, and she will be sadly missed.
Augusta is survived by one daughter, Kay Starr of Monticello, MN; two sons Jerry (Audrey) Starr of Townsend, WI; Bud (Ann) Starr of Hennepin, OK. one sister, Betty Hickenbottom of Hobart, IN; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Don; and seven brothers and sisters.
Friends called upon the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Saminski Funeral Home in Wabeno. Following the visitation there, she was taken to Hennepin, Oklahoma, where the Fox Funeral Home handled another visitation and funeral service. Following services, Augusta was laid to rest at the Hennepin Cemetery in Hennepin, on Saturday, April 28.
