Arthur Schmolinske, age 105, 1119 Superior Ave., Oconto passed away November 18, 2000 at the Veterans Hospital at Iron Mountain, Michigan. He was born June 6, 1895 at Oconto to the late Charles and Bertha (Behnke) Schmolinske. He married Verna Cerull, April 16, 1931. She preceded him in death December 10, 1975. Mr. Schmolinske operated a Auto Service Center in Milwaukee for 10 years and then moved to the Town of Little River where he operated a dairy farm until his retirement.

He was a member of the Oconto Gospel Chapel, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arthur served in the Amy in France during W.W.I and was the last surviving W.W.I veteran from Oconto County. March 25, 1999, Arthur was presented the Chevalier National Order of the Legion of Honor (France's Highest Honor).

He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, He was preceded in death by his daughter Arlene Schmolinske on November 8, 1984; brothers, William, Leonard and Walter (age 1); sisters, Ruby Viestenz, Esther Pladsen and Olga (age 7.

Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the Oconto Gospel Chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oconto Gospel Chapel with Pastor Bob Schut officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion.
