Alice graduated from Oconto Falls High School. Wishing to pursue a teaching career, she attended Wisconsin State College at Oshkosh and Whitewater and the. Upiversity of Wisconsin, Madison. After teaching in the schools of Oconto County, for several years, she became a "Supervising teacher in the Jefferson schools at Jefferson, WI.
In 1935 Alice married Dr. Garth W. Volk, an Oconto Falls native, and they moved to Stillwater, OK, where Garth was appointed an associated professor at Oklahoma State University. From Oklahoma they moved to Auburn, Alabama . where Garth joined the staff at Aurburn University. In 1944 they moved to Columbus, Ohio where Garth became chairman of the Department of Agronomy, a position he held for 29 years. They traveled extensively, spending time in Central America and living in India for six weeks. Their travels took them around the world,
While living in Worthington, Alice was a substitute teacher in the Worthington schools for many years. She was active in the Ohio State Agriculture Circle, Women's Club and church circle.
Following several years of retirement in their Worthington home, they moved to Corvallis in 1984 to be near one of their sons and his family.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church, Corvallis, she is survived by sons and daughters-in- law, Dr. Van and Doris Volk of Corvallis, OR; Dr. Bob and Shari Volk of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Gayle, Carol, Eric, David and Daniel; sister, Margaret Mulvaney of Corvallis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garth in 1986; two granddaughters, Caren and Beverly.
The funeral was held February 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, Corvallis.
