Death Saddens Our Community
The entire community was saddened at the news of the death
on Sunday of Mrs. J. M. Ankerson. Mrs. Ankerson, wife of the Gillett State
Bank president, died Sunday at Community Memorial hospital, Oconto Falls,
after a years illness. She had been a patient at the hospital for the past
two weeks.
The former Amanda Peterson was born in Chilton July 12, 1878, a daughter
of the late Chris Peterson. The Peterson family moved to Kelly Brook when
Amanda was a small girl and settled on a farm. She was married to J. M.
Ankerson on October 28, 1896. They lived in Kelly Brook until 1903 where
they farmed and ran a general store. In 1903 they moved to Gillett where
they resided since. Mrs. Ankerson was a member of the Eastern Star, also
being a Past Worthy Matron, a member of Past Matron's Club, past president
of the Gillett Women's Club, a member and worker for the Women's Christian
Temperance Union.
Survivors are her husband, J. M. Ankerson, and a nephew, Emery Ansorge,
who had been as a son to them, having lived with them for 20 years; two
brothers, Adolph and Frank Peterson of Oconto Falls; three sisters, Mrs.
Clara Schleicher and Mrs. Jeanette Chamberlin of Gillett, and Mrs. Esther
Ansorge of Appleton; also many nieces and nephews and a host of other friends.
The body was at the Kuehl Funeral home and then removed to
the Methodist church to lie is state until the time of services. The services
were conducted by the Rev. Leslie Simons, pastor of the Methodist church
here. Burial was in Wanderer's Rest cemtery.
Rev. Edward Soper, friend of the family from Pewaukee, who
was to participate in the services was unable to attend because of illness.
Mrs. Ankerson was carried to her final resting place by her
nephews, Les Ansorge, W. M. Schleicher, Norman Ankerson, Blaine Peterson,
Wilfred Ankerson and Gilbert Larson.
