ALTA BLACK OBITUARY

Anchorage resident Alta L. Black, 87, died Dec. 30, 2009, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Baptist Church, 300 North Bragaw St., with a visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dennis Richardson will officiate. A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Chester Park Vespers, 2020 Muldoon Road. Burial will be at a later date in Pembine Cemetery, Wis.

Alta was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Pembine, Wis., to the late Maurice and Lillian Leach.

Her family wrote: "She was truly a servant of God as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, pastor's wife, and missionary to Peru. Alta was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Mountain Beavers Homemakers and Chester Park. She loved to read her Bible and lived by its principles. Her greatest accomplishment was walking with her Lord and Savior."

She is survived by her husband, Robert Black; daughters, Judy (Wendell) Williams of Anchorage, Linda (Lawrence) Anderson of Rice Lake, Wis., Laura (David) Buller of Moline, Ill., Anita (Randy) Tabb of Westminster, Colo.; sons, James (Karen) Riley of Silvis, Ill., Dennis (Barbara) Black of Anchorage, Darrell (Bobby) Black of Anchorage, the Rev. Timothy (Kimberly) Riley of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 33 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Riley; and son, Roger Black.

Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Anchorage.
