Alfred was born February 15, 1902 in Gillett, WI, the middle child of nine the late Gustave Johann and Willamena (Jeske) Krause. The Krause family farmed in the Gillett area where Alfred was raised. After he completed two years of high school, he was a carpenter in the summer and a teamster in logging camps in the winter which he did for three years. He then worked in a furniture factory and a tannery.
On June 3, 1925 he married the neighboring farmer's daughter, Meta Neuman, in Gillett. The couple moved to the Soperton-Wabeno area in 1932 where they have continued to live until last year when ill health made it necessary for them to move to Nu-Roe Community Health Care Center. During Al's working years which extended well into his 80's, he was a carpenter, farmer and millwright in sawmills. He gave of these talents by building and repairing Wabeno civic projects. His last job in the early 1990's was an interpreter at the Wabeno Logging Museum where he explained the history of logging and the sawmills from his first hand experience.
