A. J. PETERSON PASSED AWAY  
AT FALLS MONDAY 

A. J. Peterson, 87, a long time resident of the area, passed away at the local hospital on Monday evening. He has been in failing health, but not seriously ill until a day or two before his death.

Funeral rites included the Odd Fellow Lodge Memorial services at seven thirty, and Masonic rites at eight thirty on Wednesday evening. The Rev. James Scott will conduct services at the Methodist church on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Peterson was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years, and also held long time memberships in the lodges.

He was born on August 16, 1876 at Chilton and came to Oconto county in 1881 by covered wagon with his family. He worked in his father's store as he grew to manhood and also helped with the farm and on logging projects in the winter. He was married to the former Anna Hanson of Hickory on November 17th, 1897. They homesteaded in North Dakota from 1905 until 1908, returning here and he operated a farm, became the owner of a coal mine, and operated a grocery store until he purchased the Falls Elevator and Coal Yard in the Falls. He retired in 1950. Mrs. Peterson preceded him in death in 1956.

Survivors include four sons, Grant of Largo, Florida and Kelly Lake; Byron, Baine and Orville, all of Oconto Falls; five daughters, Mrs. F. W. Jens (Mildred) Milwaukee; Mrs. Kent Rilenbergh, (Marvel) Oconto Falls; Mrs. Kenneth Carlson (Fern) Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Burton Vickery (Evelyn) of Suamico; and Mrs. A. W. Schwake, (Florence) Brodhead, Wis. He also leaves a brother, Frank of California and two sisters, Mrs. Esther Ansorge of Appleton, and Mrs. Nettie Chamberland of Bakersfield, California, 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
